silt basin

İngilizce - Türkçe

SILT BASIN
A silt basin is a structure designed to capture and collect sediment (silt) that is carried in stormwater runoff. It is typically a shallow, excavated basin or depression that is located near a construction site or other area where there is a lot of soil disturbance.

During rain events or snowmelt, water runs off the construction site and into the silt basin. As the water enters the basin, it slows down, allowing sediment to settle to the bottom of the basin. The clean water then flows out of the basin through an outlet pipe or other structure.

Silt basins are used to prevent sediment from being carried offsite by stormwater runoff, which can cause problems such as clogging storm drains, reducing water quality in nearby streams or water bodies, and damaging aquatic habitats. They are a common practice in construction and other land development activities, and are often required by local regulations.
